A very common query I have is that a student didn’t study well in class 11, can I still get an IIT in 1 year that is left?
Let me tell you the truth: You are probably in this situation for a reason. Maybe you are lazy, maybe you didn’t work as hard as you should have, or you spent too much time on other things like movies, friends, watching TV, or a myriad of other activities you could be involved in.
Now, I am not saying these activities are inherently “bad” - but consider this: Do you think the ideal version of you would be doing any of these activities? Who do you think deserves to be in IIT: someone whose entire existence is cracking this exam, or some rando who does 10 other things and treats his JEE prep as a second or third priority? Do you think anyone successful in life in any field - athletics, singing, acting - was doing other things during their formative years?
NO. They were busy becoming as good as they could be, constantly sharpening themselves and striving to become better. Then how do YOU, someone who has simply been wasting away his life, deserve better than that student who has given up everything just to get some marks in this exam?
This is not a moral argument, or a question of what is a good use of time. I am simply stating that someone who dedicates themselves more to a goal deserves to get that goal. As they should. If you “disagree”, or think that “life is more than an exam” - you don’t get it. There are people out there for whom IIT is EVERYTHING - and they will get it. While you will watch “JEE is overrated” videos, coping about your results. You can either live a balanced life or be successful in a field - now it is your choice which one do you want.
So, do you realise how much time have you wasted, while other students have gotten ahead of you in the meantime? But there is a silver lining.
If you can still make yourself THAT student - you might actually have a chance. The question is not about whether you can make it or not, nor is it about an exam. JEE prep is mostly about setting yourself up for your future - IITians are successful as they learn how to be hardworking and disciplined at a young age. If you can develop that discipline, you will have achieved the goal of JEE prep even if you don’t clear the exam. And you never know, you actually might get an IIT as well!
I have one exercise for you - for the next 24 hours, I want you to get into “beast mode” - where the only thing in your mind is studies. After these 24 hours, ask yourself if you felt well or not. There is no person on this planet who feels bad after an honest day’s work. That will probably make you realise what truly matters or not. If you don’t feel that way, it is okay, and maybe you are not meant to study for this exam.
