The wait is over: a post for JEE 2024. Class 11 is heading towards an end, and you must have finally started to feel what JEE preparation feels like. I’ll talk about three things in this post: Current chapters, revision chapters, and backlogs.
Current Chapters
First things first: DO NOT IGNORE CURRENT CHAPTERS. You might have a bit of backlog leading to a lack of interest in current chapters.
This is a trap, do not fall for it. A lot of chapters in the end of Class 11 are independent of previous chapters (in all 3 subjects). Some of it depends on your coaching, so please ask your teachers which upcoming chapters don’t need knowledge of chapters you have backlog in, and work on them.
Last one third of Class 11 is very scoring and easy, and you don’t want to miss on it. Admittedly, the middle portion of 11th (end of mechanics, trigonometry, equilibrium, thermodynamics, etc) are hard - but you can always work on them later.
Revision Chapters
These are chapters that you are good in. Most early chapters of class 11 fall in this category (as middle portion is way too hard lol!)
You should find at least 10 hours per week for these chapters. Go through notes, solve previous year questions, solve star marked questions in your coaching sheet (star marking = mark the good quality questions in sheets when solving), etc.
You don’t have to re do the entire chapter, just go through everything again so that you don’t get out of loop. You will have to devote A LOT of time to revision in class 12, might as well build a habit of it!
Backlogs
Probably the part you’ve been waiting for ;)
The only way to handle backlogs is to let go of whatever you know, and start the chapter right from the beginning. You should devote 20 hours per week to backlogs every week.
I know it sounds excessive, but even if you take out 1 hours on 5 days (when your school & coaching run), 5 hours on 1 day (coaching off), and 10 hours on 1 day (Sunday?) of the week, you can do it. If you are from a “dummy school” it’s even more doable.
Start reading your notes from the very scratch, watch videos online, solve basic questions. You don’t have to become a maestro just yet - we have class 12 for that. Just become capable enough to not flinch when faced with a question.
There’s a lot more to talk about, and we will in future posts. But right now, focus on what I’ve talked about and try to finish at least 70% syllabus before class 12 starts. You will be fine.
That’s it for today, let me know if you have any questions as a reply/comment here, happy to answer (or make a new post!)
